Deep Creek SRA Boat Launch
In the late 1980s, Deep Creek State Park, at mile 138 in Ninilchik, was put on the map of premier saltwater fishing destinations with the opening of this tractor assisted boat launch operation. It is a jointly operated private and Alaska State Parks concession. Open generally from May 1st through Labor Day weekend, this service launches thousands of charter and private boats and has become an essential asset to our community’s economy, as well as a major attraction. When you hear someone cry, “The kings are in at Deep Creek! “, it’s because our launch is the first to open on central Cook Inlet every season.
All State Park visitors quickly discover that the tractor launch on Deep Creek beach is the busiest place in town, with boats up to 33 ft. launching and coming back in off of the water according to the fishing tides on any given summer day. The hustle and bustle of big tractors, trucks with big boats on trailers, charter guides and eager fishermen, especially on prime times like Memorial Day Weekend, are a sight you don’t want to miss. Hopefully, you’ll be going fishing, too! If the wind blows up on the Inlet, you’ll find that everyone is going to the beach to watch the hard working crews scramble to safely get those die hard boats back onto the beach. Most of those crews are local boys and we are proud of the great work they do.
